The world we live in is also the scene of many crimes throughout human history. Although many of the criminals have been captured by the authorities, there are still unsolved crimes that still remain unanswered. Some culprits remained unpunished. Here we show some macabre crimes that tell several mysteries.

Throughout the history of mankind, the world has been the scene of many crimes that have spread death throughout the world. Despite the fact that justice works in many cases, there were some criminals who escaped with impunity after carrying out brutal acts. To this day, there are 'badly told' stories and facts to be investigated.

Here we show the crimes that occurred and that remain unanswered and full of mystery

The mysterious murder

One of the most frightening and unanswered crimes in history was the murder of American actress Elizabeth Short. In 1947, the body of the Black Dahlia - nickname for which it was known - was found in a vacant lot in Los Angeles (United States).

The actress' body was mutilated and cut in the middle the waist up and the organs were also removed. Although there were many suspects in the murder, the crime was never solved and remains a mystery to this day.

The Ax Man

Between 1911 and 1919, a mysterious 'ax man' terrorized the city of New Orleans (United States). Most of his victims, mostly women, were killed in a brutal and masochistic way with an ax - the weapon he always used.

Many people ended up dying murdered by this mysterious man, who was never found, and his identity remains a mystery to this day. Other theories say that Homem do Machado was a kind of mafia made up of several murderers.

The Keddie Murders

The Keddie Murders were a quadruple homicide that occurred in Keddie, a tourist resort in Northern California, United States, in 1981.

The victims were 4 members of the Sharp family who were stabbed and beaten to death by a mysterious murderer. To this day, the culprit has never been found and the hut the crimes occurred was demolished in 2004.

The missing children

On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1945, a fire destroyed the Sodder family home in Fayetteville (United States). At the time, the inhabitants of the house were George Sodder, his wife Jennie, and nine of their ten children.

During the fire, George, Jennie, and four of the nine children escaped, but the bodies of the remaining five children - who were trapped in the room - were never found again. The Sodder believed that their children had survived due to a series of unusual circumstances that occurred before and during the fire.

The mysterious death of the 9 skiers

Passo Dyatlov incident was an event that resulted in the death of nine skiers north of the Ural Mountains (Russia) on the night of February 2, 1959. The absence of witnesses and subsequent investigations into the skiers' deaths inspired intense speculation.

Researchers at the time determined that skiers tore their tents the inside and fled on foot in the snowstorm. Although the bodies showed no signs of struggle, two victims had a fractured skull and two had broken ribs.

The Taman Shud case

An unidentified man was found on a beach in Adelaide (Australia) in December 1948. In his pocket was a paper with a phrase that said: 'Tamán shud' which means 'finished' in the Persian language.

The unknown man had poison spread on his body but the authorities were never able to identify whether it was suicide, homicide, or the identity of the victim. The case remains a mystery today and has been the subject of several speculations in the country.

The murder at the Hinterkaifeck estate

In the night, in 1922, six residents of the Hinterkaifeck estate in Germany were brutally murdered with a pickaxe.

The case shocked the country and there were several failed attempts to find the culprit. To this day there remains a mystery as to the identity of the murderer and also the reasons that led him to commit the crime.

The cursed road

1969 to 2011, at least 18 women were killed or disappeared along Highway 16 in British Columbia (Canada) while walking. The missing women were found dead on a stretch of road that residents dubbed Rodovia das Lágrimas.

A special unit formed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police linked the 18 cases to this part of the road and two side roads. Other women have since disappeared, and community activists and relatives of the missing say they believe the total is close to 50. Almost all cases remain unsolved and unanswered.

The murder of Kyllikki Saari

A 17-year-old girl by her name - Auli Kyllikki Saari - was found killed in an open country in Finland in 1953. The girl was returning home by bicycle after a prayer meeting when she was attacked by an unidentified person.

Among the suspects are a parish priest and a man who spent a long time in a hospice. But the real culprits were never caught and crime remains a mystery today.

The disappearance of Madeleine McCann

In May 2007, the English girl Madeleine McCann, just 3 years old, disappeared her hotel room in the Algarve (Portugal) while her parents had dinner with friends.

The case was considered kidnapping, until a DNA test indicated that the girl died in the hotel room.

The kidnapping case was reopened in 2008 and until today, we never knew what really happened on that fateful night. The mysteries of Madeleine McCann's disappearance and death traveled the world, but still many questions remained to be answered.

The homicide at Lake Bodom

On June 4, 1960, four young men decided to camp at Lake Bodom, located in Finland. During the night, the two teenagers and one of the boys were stabbed and beaten to death with stones.

Years later, in 2004, the only survivor, Nils Gustafsson, was accused of killing his friends because he wanted sex with one of the girls. However, justice found him innocent and even today the tragic event remains a mystery.

The assassination of President John F. Kennedy

The 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, died murdered on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas.

Kennedy was fatally wounded by gunfire while riding in the presidential car on Dealey Square. He was the fourth president of the United States to be assassinated and the eighth who died in office.

Two official investigations concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald, an employee of the Texas School Book Depository warehouse, was the killer. One indicated that Oswald acted alone and another suggested that he had at least one accomplice. The murder has always been subject to speculation and doubts and is still the subject of a large number of conspiracy theories today.

The night stalker

1979 to 1989, an unidentified man to date has murdered at least 10 people and raped more than 50 women in Southern California (United States).

The night stalker was never arrested and several suspects were excluded by DNA, alibi, and other means and methods of investigation. Crime continues today with many unanswered questions.

The Houston Killer

In 1965, the body parts of Fred and Edwina Rogers were found rolled up on shelves inside their refrigerator.

Police believe the son, Charles Rogers, committed the crime since he has never been seen since the incident. The crime remains, however, without evident evidence and the mystery remains.
